L.K. Emry Memorial Labor Education Scholarship

Applications are being taken for the L.K. Emry Memorial Labor Education Scholarship for the 2015-2016 School Year. There will be one $550 scholarship awarded and presented to the recipient at the Al Bauer Banquet. Any University of Nebraska or High School Student who is or has a parent, grandparent, or guardian who is a member of one of the recognized Nebraska AFL-CIO Labor unions is eligible to apply. Application deadline is December 1, 2015. Applications are available at your local union hall, 2448 "N" Street.

New Leadership for Communications Workers of America

At the Communications Workers of America (CWA), Larry Cohen retired after 10 years at the helm of the 700,000-member union of telephone, airline, broadcast, printing, journalism, and government workers, among others. Chris Shelton, the longtime leader of CWA District 1, in New York and New Jersey, succeeds Cohen as the incoming president, voted into the top spot at the union's 75th Convention in June. Shelton will be joined by Sara Steffens who was elected to the number two spot at CWA replacing Annie Hill as Secretary-Treasurer.

CWA 2015 PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP TIME - EXTENDED

THE APPLICATION DATE FOR  PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP HAS BEEN EXTENDED BY ONE WEEK

PURPOSE:  To assist in the achievement of higher education.  The recipient must be a full time student carrying not less than 12 credit hours per semester, with the intent of receiving their Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree, and attending a recognized accredited college, university, or vocational school on a continuing basis, specifically a four year college or university or two year vocational. 

NECA/IBEW Local 265 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

This tournament will be a 4-person scramble format with a shotgun start. There will be food and pin prizes after the tournament. The food will be served and prizes awarded afterwards at IBEW Local 265's Meeting Hall at 6200 South 14th St., Lincoln, NE.

The tournament will be on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Pioneers Golf Course, 3403 West Van Dorn St., Lincoln, NE, 402.441.8966. Tee time is set for 8 a.m. sharp.

Please join us at a rally on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at the Federal Building, 100 Centennial Mall North at 4:30 p.m. We are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid keeping us healthy, and also the 80th Anniversary of the Social Security Administration serving the public. We look forward to seeing you there.

Retirees' Meeting

Past Union members that have retired meet once a month at the union hall. There are usually snacks and games...and there is always lively conversation. Come down any second Friday of the month at 1:00 p.m. to enjoy your afternoon and see some old friends.
